Early English silver button, hand engraved and decorated with a monogram in fancy script, amongst foliage. Flat back and thick shank. Backmarked with the maker’s initials “IF”, the monarch’s head (George III), the lion for sterling silver, and date letter “A” for London 1796. Slight signs of wear commensurate with old silver, but good size and charming decoration. Nice to have the full hallmark, so a very desirable collectable.

Large Victorian picture button, stamped and pierced copper coloured metal. The image shows a knight in full armor, standing beside his shield. Fancy pressed metal border with classical motifs, embellished with cut steels rivetted through the base. One-piece construction and metal loop shank.

Decorative flower button, Japanese influence, asymmetric design. Molded sunray background, with stamped brass branch of flowers, curving round a silver coloured metal sunflower with cut steel centre, rivetted through the base. Backstamped: SOLITAIRE BTE SGDG - A P & CIE PARIS.

Part original card of vintage/antique small buttons made of cream vegetable ivory (tagua nut). Turned circles on the top and tunnel shank on the back. Card is printed with a gold border and BEST ITALIAN MAKE. Occasional brown spots are natural colouration of the tagua nut. Price is for the card of 17 buttons.

Antique Continental hand painted porcelain button, showing a troubadour in 18th century costume, seated in a rural landscape. Raised dotted rim highlighted in gold lustre. Unglazed back with raised bridge shank. This listing is for the one on the left in photo 3, with the companion button of his female companion listed separately. Charming collectible. Good vintage condition.

Vintage/antique enamel button, gilt metal base, decorated with champleve enamel in a rich brown, the centre over-painted with tiny flowers, and surrounded by the scroll panels of brown enamel. Gilt metal back and loop shank. Backstamped: E M PARIS.

Vintage white metal button with raised image of an owl, perched on a twig. He has outstretched wings and some kind of inscription. Possibly some kind of livery or club button(?) Flat back and thick shank.

Antique Continental hand painted porcelain button of a lady in 18th century costume, wearing a pink dress, and seated in a rural landscape. Raised dotted rim highlighted in gold lustre. Unglazed back with raised bridge shank. Tiny back rim chip which just shows above her head (11 o’clock position), but not very noticeable. This listing is for the one on the right in photo 3, with the companion button of her troubadour companion listed separately. Charming collectible.

Small glass button in metal frame. The blue glass has a flat top and molded flower design, highlighted in gold lustre. This is held in a brass rim. Grey metal back with metal loop shank. Vintage condition, as shown, and slightly bent shank but still useable.

Victorian domed button with a molded raised image of a female head on a textured background. I think this is black dyed horn but possibly some kind of composition. Metal loop shank pressed directly into the back. Attractive old collectable

Vintage/antique red glass button, square shape with chopped off corners, painted fine gold lines forming a cross, and black and gold painted border. There are also painted coloured dots at each corner, but 3 of these are rubbed. Plain red glass back and four-way metal box shank. Stylish vintage.

Small antique buttons, oval shape, with a facetted purple glass centre with flat top, held in a brass collar. The glass is surrounded by a purple basse taille enamel border, with gold dots. Brass back with hollow centre, and brass bar across which holds the loop shank. The actual purple colour is more like photo 1 than 3. Tiny nibble to the edge of the flat top on one of the buttons but not very noticeable. Beautiful collectable buttons - price is per button.

Victorian silver button, depicting a seated female figure with two children, one on her lap and another to her side. Nice composition. Plain back with loop shank. Hallmarks: maker’s initials MF, lion for sterling silver, leopard’s head for London Assay office and date letter “c” for 1898. Vintage condition - shank is slightly bent, and the figures and the hallmarks are rubbed, but button is over 100 years old.

Victorian painted metal button with green painted wave on one side, over a background of cream velvet. Possibly once a perfume button. Painted green metal rim with tiny blue forget-me-nots. Black painted metal back with loop shank. Very pretty.

Antique solitaire or bachelor button, with a detachable shank which releases with a spring mechanism. This one has a charming hand painted portrait of a young boy, rustic style, on a porcelain top. Backstamped WESTS PATENT with the setting sun logo.
