This is surrounded by a champleve enamel border of rococo style scrolls, filled with polychrome enamels. Probably French, late 19th century. Set of 4 Edwardian waistcoat buttons, with images of “vices” - wine, women, and gambling. These buttons show a bottle of champagne, a can can dancer, a race horse, and playing cards. Lithographs under celluloid shield, with gilt metal rim, back, and loop shank. Not a perfectly matched set, and a couple of bent shanks, as shown, but an amusing group from a bygone age. Remounted on card for safer storage and journey. Price is for the set of 4.

Charming silver button, typical of Dutch picture buttons. This one shows a courting couple with scrolls in the background, and surrounded by a rope rim. Hallmarks include the “F” for foreign or imported silver, the lion for sterling silver, date letter “g” for 1902 and leopard’s head for London Assay office.

Antique stud button, which I believe is red agate but could possibly be glass. This is overlaid with a molded and engraved fern leaf. Metal rim and back, with stud type shank. Backstamped: JEFFREYS PATENT BI-CLIMAX. The top of the shank has a single flap to push into button hole, then turns round to become a double flap to hold it secure.

Small antique glass button, custard yellow glass and a molded flat topped triangle. The edges are molded and painted with scrolls, and the centre has 3 tiny glass balls painted with gold lustre. Domed back, small metal backplate and loop shank.

Pair of large antique picture buttons, relating to the Franco-Prussian war (1870). One is inscribed 'Au Revoir’ and shows a woman weeping as her husband departs, the signpost points to Prussia and France. The other button is inscribed ‘Nix Tric Trac' and shows a woman who is obviously refusing the Prussian soldier's advances by giving him the elbow. Both are silver plated on brass, with brass back and stud type shanks. Some rubbing to the plating but otherwise good vintage condition, and a very interesting pair of subject buttons.
